In the province of Ontario, nurse practitioners are unable to bill OHIP for their services like physicians do. As a result, private, independent nurse practitioners have to charge fees for their services. Patients can claim these costs on their 3rd party insurance ie. Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife.
-
The nurse practitioner can provide a wide variety of primary and urgent care services, similar to those provided by a family physician, such as preventative care and screening, chronic disease management, minor surgical procedures, and more.
An extensive list of services and fees can be found in the services section below.

30-minute appointments
Health promotion, health teaching, patient-centered care, collaborative team approach, nursing empathy and compassionate approach to patients
Years of nursing experience
Nurse practitioners work autonomously. They do not need to be supervised by a physician like physician assistants
Nurse practitioners embrace working side by side with other healthcare professionals (ie. RN, social worker) to enhance the quality management of illness (mental health, and substance use disorder treatments). Patients can have a more comprehensive treatment plan when providers work together to achieve wellness.
Various research studies and analyses demonstrate that if NPs were used to their full potential, the cost-saving to our healthcare system could be significant
NPs are not second-level physicians nor are they assistants to physicians.
FAQs
-
Primary care is the day-to-day healthcare provided by a healthcare professional, serving as the first point of contact and the principal location for ongoing health needs. It encompasses a wide range of services, including routine check-ups, care for common illnesses, chronic disease management, and coordination of more specialized care.
Our Nurse Practitoners (NPs) are advanced registered nurses who play a crucial role in primary care by diagnosing and treating both acute and chronic conditions. they focus heavily on overall wellness, emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education. By using a holistic approach, NP's look at the whole person- including physical, mental, and social factors- to empower patients to make healthy lifestyle choices and actively participate in a comprehensive care plan designed for their long term well-being.
